Firefly is an independent publication launched in late 2025 by Jamie Allen, Jane Moir and Melissa Brown.

Our aim is to give readers a fresh take on financial news and events shaping capital markets in Asia. We will target issues, transactions and trends we feel deserve a sharper focus and provide frank opinions on why they matter.

We have established backgrounds in corporate governance, investment, financial journalism, law and energy economics. The past few decades have been spent in Asia where we acquired a solid understanding of what drives markets in the region while cultivating strong contacts with policymakers, regulators, investors and corporates.

Given our backgrounds, our house view will come as little surprise:  investors in Asia deserve a more level playing field. But where we have been diplomatic in the past, being an independent publisher now gives us license to be more candid with our views.

Our goal is to find and draw attention to blind spots, vulnerabilities, red flags and emerging risks. We will map out trends and themes and try to predict outcomes. We recognise there will be hits and misses, but we won’t sit on the fence.

In brief, we pledge to:

·      Spend our time on the “why” and “what’s next”, calling out when something does not add up.

·      Have regular dialogue with regulators, policymakers, investors and other people in Asian markets making the news.

·      Talk to our subscribers and hearing what you think is important.

·      Produce a mix of quick takes, long and short reads, and data-driven research in a clear, journalistic style on a regular basis.

·      As we scale up with your support, devote more resources to independent research.

·      Maintain a healthy dose of scepticism.

Our primary scope of coverage is Asia, but we will write about developments in the UK, Europe and the United States which are having an impact on the region.
